Seven Steps To Writing provides training for teachers to help their students to improve their writing skills. Affordable Fitouts were chosen to assist with creating an expanded office and workshop space in the Melbourne suburb of Cheltenham.
The project sought to expand the work area by building an overhead mezzanine, with a connecting staircase. A new kitchen and multiple bathrooms/toilets were also required, as well as private offices and a workshop area with custom furniture for learning.
Before commencing, much of the old fitout in the building was demolished, including a kitchen and partition walls. Existing floor tiles were removed and the floor prepared for new flooring.
The standout part of the project was building the new mezzanine and a stunning Tasmanian oak staircase with glass balustrade and stainless steel handrail, to connect the ground and first floors. To counteract the loss of light from the mezzanine, new glazing was installed which allowed light from above to flood the space.
Existing bathrooms on the ground floor were renovated and a new bathroom installed on the first floor, with all new fixtures and plumbing. Full height partitions were used to create private office space, and a new suspended ceiling grid and tiles installed. The kitchen installation included statement black joinery and white honeycomb tiles, with dark grout. Dark grey carpet squares were used throughout the space, with vinyl planking in the kitchen and utility areas. Final touches included custom office furniture, pendant lights, and electrics and data cabling.
The result was a bright and creative learning space that provided enough room to run workshops, as well as allowing existing staff to work privately. The expanded bathroom facilities and new kitchen provided a stylish, practical space for small groups to meet and learn in complete comfort. The client was delighted with the result and the Affordable team was very proud of what was achieved.
